En 1966, inspir\u00e9 par la philosophie de Dorothy Day et le mouvement des travailleurs catholiques, ce couple d'immigr\u00e9s irlandais a fond\u00e9 la Casa Maria House, situ\u00e9e \u00e0 environ un kilom\u00e8tre de la paroisse St Benedict the Moor. L'objectif de Casa Maria \u00e9tait de promouvoir la pratique du partage direct et personnel avec les personnes en situation de pauvret\u00e9 en recevant des invit\u00e9s dans leur cuisine pour un repas.<\/p>\n<p>Un nombre croissant d'hommes, de femmes et d'enfants du voisinage se joignent \u00e0 eux pour ce repas quotidien.  Ils ont \u00e9t\u00e9 contraints de chercher des locaux plus grands. En collaboration avec le capucin Alex Luzi et apr\u00e8s beaucoup de pri\u00e8res et de r\u00e9flexion, le repas communautaire de St. Ben's a \u00e9t\u00e9 transf\u00e9r\u00e9 \u00e0 son emplacement actuel le 13 novembre 1970.<\/p>\n<p>D\u00e8s le d\u00e9but, l'accent a \u00e9t\u00e9 mis sur l'aspect communautaire du repas. Cela s'est manifest\u00e9 sur deux fronts. Tout d'abord, des groupes de sponsors issus de diverses \u00e9glises, organisations et groupes civiques de l'ensemble de la communaut\u00e9 de Milwaukee se sont engag\u00e9s \u00e0 fournir le repas du dimanche au vendredi soir.
